Q: Do you have a location or do you go to people's homes?

A:The tutor you select will go to your home or will meet the student at the library.

Q: Do I need to sign up for a set number of lessons?

A: You do not need to sign up for a set number of lessons. You can have as many or as few lessons as you decide on.

Q: What is the difference between your tutoring service and the many other tutoring services in the area?

A: As an association of tutors we pay no money for rent, bookkeepers, executives, etc. Payment is made to the tutor directly.

Q: What about the quality of the tutors?

A: As a math faculty member at Marymount College I spent several hours per week in the learning center tutoring students in math and observing other tutors with their pupils. Through my own training as an educator and after years of observing other tutors at work I've developed a knack for finding tutors of the highest caliber. I've made this site with the purpose of connecting those tutors with students who can benefit from their expertise. And what makes for a great tutor? In short it is mastery of their subjects, years of tutoring experience, the ability to explain difficult concepts in a way that makes sense, and most importantly the right personality....traits such as being patient, adaptive, and passionate about helping others to learn.

What are the tutors' rates?

A: Each tutor is independent and makes his/her own rates. In general the rates are around $35 per hour for grade amd middle school tutoring, and $40 to $50 per hour for advanced math, science, and other high school or college level tutoring. These rates are highly competitive and nearly always lower than other organizations with "in-home" tutors, due largely to the fact that as an association we have no executives' salaries to pay, no office rent, etc, and since I do the web site our expenses are quite minimal. Please email or call for a quote for a specific subject or tutor.

Q: What are the credentials of the tutors?

A: The tutors are professionals with advanced degrees, credentialed teachers, and honors students in college or grad school. All have at least two years of tutoring experience. Further, I've personally done lengthy interviews with each tutor, as well as extensive reference checks (with both past employers/families and follow-ups with current families each works with) to ensure that the site is composed only with tutors of the highest caliber.

Q: What is the cancellation policy?

A: 24 hours notice is required for cancellation or you will have to pay for the lesson.
